About me
I’m Rosalind (Roz) and I’m been a French <>English Interpreter and French to English Translator with 16 years of experience. Before becoming an interpreter, I worked in the IT sector for six years. HR and employee relations is the area I enjoy working in the most, and I am also passionate about politics. I regularly interpret in court and translate legal documents, and I cover finance, business and IT. In June 2024 I gave my first conference talk at the ITI Conference in Edinburgh, and I also coordinate and host online Zoom events for the ITI Parent and Carer Network. I am also delighted to announce that I have recently started working on some exciting new content for parents who are aspiring freelancers.

Interpreting equipment can be provided through our specialist partners for face-to-face meetings, such as interpreting booths and the more cost-effective mobile interpreting (tour guide) systems. For remote services, we use the most up-to-date technology available to the language industry.

Consistency in your translations is guaranteed through our Trados and Memsource translation software, which save every sentence translated. For meetings of one hour or more we would recommend using two interpreters in each language combination (e.g. French and English), to ensure a high-quality output.

Modes of interpreting
Interpreters can work in simultaneous or consecutive mode, or a combination of the two. It is worth considering which mode of interpreting you require well in advance of your meeting, and how many interpreters you will need.
Simultaneous
Interpreters in simultaneous mode speak at the same time as the speaker, often a few seconds behind. Simultaneous mode is primarily used in both face-to-face and online conferences. It may also be used in other situations such as court hearings, where the interpreter would usually sit next to the client and provide “whispered” simultaneous interpreting. For quality purposes, there are usually two interpreters for each language combination, so that they can take turns.
Consecutive
Consecutive interpreting is where the interpreter speaks after the speaker, and will often take notes. It tends to work best for short segments of 30 seconds or less.
In both interpreting modes, interpreters will require breaks at least once an hour.
